This 340-acre preserve, located west of Litchfield Center, includes a spectacular viewpoint near its 1350-foot summit, as well as a large pond to the west. The area was subject to significant nickel mining explorations in the 1800’s.
We will start on the BLUE TRAIL, rated moderate/challenging as it includes a 400-foot gain to the summit, as well as some steep and rocky areas, then pick up the YELLOW TRAIL, also moderate/challenging, crossing seasonal wetlands and ascending steeply to reconnect with the Blue trail near the 1350 ft. summit.
Apres hike picnic at Morris Town Beach. BYO EVERYTHING (food, utensils, beverages, cups, chairs, blanket or extra layers, etc.) A port-o-potty is available.
