ARRIVE BY 11:45 AM to drop off coolers and food. Enter thru white, side gate. Leave coolers in back, under deck. Parking is allowed on the street. Hikes steps off promptly at NOON. Time changed due to rain predicted in later afternoon. Please be on time - it is getting too chilly to wait for late arrivals.
Both hikes start together, up a very steep paved road to trails leading into the park. Hiking footwear and poles strongly recommended.
Moderate Hike, lead by Lynn. This 3-4 mile hike, taking about 2 hours, is on a combination of paved and gravel roads and trails (generally with good footing but some rocky areas) to a gazebo with great views, along the reservoir, across a footbridge over Rt 691, back into the park and then returning to the house.
Very Strenuous, Challenging Hike, lead by Ron. This 5-6 mile hike, taking about 3+ hours, in not for the faint of heart! After the steep start it heads straight up to the radio towers where you will encounter a trap rock trail, making for tricky footing, a rock scramble, a steep downhill with rocks onto the blue trail along to the castle, with its great views, then returning to the house.
Apres gathering at Lynn & Ron’s. BYOB, protein (grills will be available) and a dish to share. Paper products will be available.
