Hike, Peoples State Forest, Barkhamsted, CT--Jeanne Delehanty 860-748-5858. Arrive at 11:15 AM. Hike steps off promptly at 11:30 AM (it’s getting too cold to wait for late arrivals). Meet at the parking lot on the left side of East River Rd. From the junction of East River Rd and Rt 181, travel north on East River Rd for about 1 mile. Lot is on the left - look for the Port-O-Potties! The trails at People are some of the most challenging we encounter in CT. This approximately 5+ mile hike includes steady climbs (right from the beginning) and ascents and descents over rocky hilltops. You will be rewarded with stunning vistas at several overlook spots. Due to the challenging nature of the trails hiking shoes (not sneakers or running shoes) are a must. There is a picnic area with tables, grills and a pavilion adjacent to the parking lot for those interested in a socially distant apres. Bring your own everything, including a mask.
